Below is a suggested daily destinations as an example of what you could do. Below the itinerary, categorized by states, are optional destinations that could be switched to meet your personal desires.
Arrive in Las Vegas, Nevada from your gateway city. While spending a few days adjusting to time zone changes, enjoy premiere shows and fine dining in the entertainment capitol of the world. Experience the lights of Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street during your private evening tour.
Day 1 Departing Las Vegas you’ll see Historic Hoover Dam, constructed during the great depression of the 1930’s; Lake Mead, the largest man-made reservoir in North America; and Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the first and largest NRA administrated by the National Park Service. Arriving at Grand Canyon National Park you can walk along the rim trail, viewing the mighty Colorado River one mile below. Before dinner, experience the setting sun on the distant canyon wall.
Day 2 Join your Hopi guide as you tour the Three Mesas on the Hopi Reservation. Learn about the culture of one of America’s oldest Native American settlements.
Day 3 Today you travel to Monument Valley for a tour in Navajo Tribal Park, narrated by a Navajo tour guide. You can photograph the iconic sandstone mesas and buttes that provided background scenery in the John Wayne movies Stagecoach, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, and The Searchers.
Day 4 Accompanied by a Navajo guide, view cliff dwellings in Canyon de Chelly National Monument, once occupied by the ancient civilization, Anasazi. Shop Native American jewelery, weaving, and baskets at the Perry Null Trading Company.
Day 5 Experience Chaco Culture National Historic Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Chaco Canyon was the center of a pre-Colombian culture referred to as Ancestral Puebloan people.
Day 6 Aztec Ruins National Monument, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and listed of the National Register of Historic Places, exhibits the only reconstructed Great Kiva in the Southwest USA.
Day 7 Mesa Verde National Park is the largest archaeological site in the United States. Listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mesa Verde was the first, and is the only Cultural National Park established by the National Park Service. Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in North America.
Day 8 View the mesas and buttes in Canyonlands National Park. This remote area on the Colorado Plateau was carved by the Colorado and Green Rivers.
Day 9 Hike among the sandstone arches in Arches National Park. See rock art from the Fremont Culture in Capitol Reef National Park.
Day 10 Drive along Utah Scenic Highway 12 through the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The largest of the National Monuments, Grand Staircase – Escalante is an outdoors laboratory. Many specimens collected since 1997, have been found only in the National Monument, including three new species of dinosaurs. Visit the Bureau of Land Management information centers on fauna and flora, Native American and pioneer human history.
Day 11 At Bryce Canyon National Park enjoy the scenic vistas from Rainbow Point, Ponderosa Point, Natural Bridge and Farview. Photograph colorful hoodoos sculptured from the eroding limestone Claron Formation. Walk along the rim between Bryce Point and Sunset Point, or hike to the canyon below.
Day 12 Drive the scenic route to the Checkerboard Mesa, Zion Tunnel and the Great Arch of Zion. The sandstone cliffs in Zion National Park are considered to have been among the tallest sand dunes in the world. Photograph the Court of the Patriarchs, and the West Temple. Enjoy your leisure walk along the Virgin River from the Temple of Sinawava to the Narrows. Depart Zion National Park for your return to Las Vegas.
